The WF-1000XM4 builds off of the noise cancellation technology used in previous Sony products by adding two noise sensing microphones in each earbud—one feed-forward, one feed-backward. These microphones will analyze ambient noise and work in conjunction with a newly designed 6mm driver unit to generate a noise-canceling signal with a 20% magnet volume increase. Sony There is also an Automatic Wind Noise Reduction mode for use on windy days. In addition to noise cancellation, the WF-1000XM4 supports High-Resolution Audio Wireless with a 900 kbps maximum transfer rate, as well as 360 Reality Audio, when paired with an applicable smartphone. Adaptive Sound Control will detect the surrounding environment in order to adjust ambient sound settings automatically, and can learn to recognize frequently visited locations. On the user experience side, the WF-1000XM4 uses Qi technology to wirelessly charge both the earbuds and the charging case. The earbuds will hold their charge for up to eight hours, and up to 60 minutes on a five-minute quick charge, with the charging case providing up to an additional 16 hours. The earbuds also have an IPX4 water-resistance rating, so they won't get damaged in a run through the rain. Sony The popular speak-to-chat feature first introduced in the WH-1000XM4 model also has been brought to the WF-1000XM4. Speak-to-chat will recognize and react to the user's voice, automatically pausing music and allowing ambient sound in when they begin speaking. Once they've finished talking, the ambient sound control will switch back on and the music will continue. The WF-1000XM4 earbuds are available now for $279.99 in both black and silver.
