This article explains how to tag a friend in a post on Facebook and how to remove yourself from a tagged post that someone else made.

How to Tag a Facebook Friend

Facebook posts are often about fun activities with friends and family. Some show photos of our travels and activities. Tagging a friend in a post or photo creates a link to their Facebook profile and notifies your friend that you tagged them. Here's how to tag a friend in a Facebook post. From your Facebook home page in a browser or the app, go to What's on your mind? at the top of the News Feed. Begin typing your post, and then type @ immediately followed by the person's name you want to tag. In this example, typing @Amy automatically suggests a list of friends with that name. Select the friend's name from the drop-down menu that appears. The @ symbol will disappear. Continue writing the rest of your post, and select Share (or Post) when you're done. Alternatively, type your post and then select Tag Friends or Tag People. Begin typing their name and then select it from the options.

How to Remove a Tag From a Post

To remove a tag you placed in one of your own posts, select the menu button on the upper right-hand corner of your post and choose Edit Post. Remove the name with the tag and select Save. If you want to remove yourself from a tagged post that someone else made, select the menu button on the upper right-hand corner of the post and choose Remove tag. Be aware that if you tag someone in a post, that post may be visible to the audience you selected plus friends of the tagged person, depending on their privacy settings. Was this page helpful?
