Experience

Oliver Haslam has been writing about technology for more than a decade covering personal devices like smartphones and smartwatches as well as software and hardware used within the enterprise. If it plugs in or takes a battery, there's a good chance Oliver has written about it somewhere. In a previous life, Oliver spent a number of years in the IT service management world, first administering application servers and back-end infrastructure for the UK's National Health Service before moving into an Incident Management role.

Relevant experience includes:News and analysis for iMore, Cult Of Mac, Macworld, and others.Guides and how-tos for How-To Geek and LifeSavvy.Game coverage for 148Apps and Touch Arcade.Blog posts for 1Password including product launches, guides, and promotional material. Despite having written for so long, Oliver only became a full-time writer in 2018, leaving IT service management to move into content creation. Since then he has expanded his business, helping developers create compelling App Store descriptions and other promotional content.

My Gear

I'm sadly lacking in Apple silicon and am currently making do with two Intel space heaters. The first is a 2018 Intel i7 Mac mini, upgraded to 32GB of RAM. That's my main workhorse and the one I write on daily.
As a portable machine, I use a 2015 13-inch MacBook Pro that is in dire need of replacement. That'll be replaced by a 14-inch M1 Pro MacBook Air soon hopefully.
Other tech includes an iPhone 13 Pro Max and a 2018 11-inch iPad Pro. The house is also littered with HomePods and HomePod minis as well as one stubborn Echo Dot.

Education

Oliver didn't complete college, finding the local IT course to be unfulfilling. He began a career at the age of 17 instead, spending the next 13 years working for the same company in multiple positions.

A Message from Oliver Haslam

Writing words is something that I've been enjoying for many years, and I hope that people enjoy reading them at Lifewire. Writing about technology can be a complicated thing, but the key is to make sure to turn any complication into easy to understand text that you don't need to be an expert to grasp. That's the case whether you're writing news, analysis, or guides.
